Dreams come true in the NetAachen-Prize

Three people and a horse are standing on a showground in the stadium. The person in the centre is sitting on a brown horse wearing a winner's blanket with the NetAachen logo. On the left is a person in a suit, on the right a person in a light-coloured jacket with a NetAachen bag. Other riders, spectators in the stands and a sign with the CHIO Aachen and NetAachen logos can be seen in the background.

Promoting youth is a matter close to the CHIO Aachen’s heart. This is why there is the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS 365 days a year and the NetAachen-Prize at the World Equestrian Festival, an international CSI1* jumping competition for Young Riders. A French rider won the class friday morning.

There are two classes for aspiring young talents. Today, the first of the two was on the agenda, a penalties/time competition over 1.35-metre obstacles. The second class, which also has a jump-off, is on Sunday.

Alice Laine (21) and her long-standing partner in success, Emerald Sitte, was the fastest today in a time of 58.60 seconds. They took 0.11 seconds less than the local hero, Tony Stormanns with Surprise – which meant second place for the 17-year-old junior from Weisweiler. The 18-year-old rider from the USA, Sterling Malnik, came third with Cap du Marais (59.92).

Both Alice Laine and Tony Stormanns have already won European Championship medals. But Aachen seems to be something special for Alice. “It is unbelievable! Taking part here has always been my dream,” she said almost overwhelmed after her victory. One of many that she has celebrated with Emerald Sitte. “He is 15 years old and I have been riding him for 7 years. We have done everything together: European Championships, my first Grand Prix. My horse gifted me this special victory today. He is the horse of my life.”
