Boyd Exell invincible in the Prize of Event Rent GmbH – and in the Prize of Family Richard Talbot as well as the Baron und Baronin von Buchholtz Nations’ Cup
Boyd Exell just doesn’t stop winning. The last gold rosettes also went to Australia – in the Prize of Event Rent GmbH, the Prize of Family Richard Talbot and sensationally enough also in the Baron und Baronin von Buchholtz Nations’ Cup.
The four-in-hand drivers had two cone driving competitions on the agenda today. The first decided the individual classification, the Prize of Family Richard Talbot and the Baron und Baronin von Buchholtz Nations’ Cup. The eight best from this round then took part in a drive-off, for the Prize of Event Rent GmbH. In round one, Boyd Exell came fifth after a ball fell from a cone. However, in the drive-off he went all out with his team and also secured the victory in this class.
He had only needed to come fifth to also claim the individual classification and the Nations Cup for Australia – whereby the World Champion has lived in Europe for years. It is not surprising that he won the individual competition, after all it is the fourth time in succession. However, the fact that Australia drove to victory in the Baron und Baronin von Buchholtz Nations’ Cup was indeed a premiere. On a combined score of 352.780 minus points Boyd Exell and Tor van den Berge left their fellow competitors far behind them – even though there were only the two of them in the team and they weren’t able to rely on a scratch result in any of the phases. Second place went to Germany, to Michael Brauchle, Georg von Stein and Anna Sandmann (367.290 minus points). Belgium ranked third with a total score of 370.290 minus points. The Dutch team, previously undefeated since 2007, had to make do with fourth place this year (377.040).
Boyd Exell had a huge lead in the individual classification, the Prize of Family Richard Talbot – 154.56 minus points compared to the 173.09 minus points Anna Mareike Meier had collected. To complete the success of the German ladies, Exell’s pupil, Anna Sandmann, also claimed third place (179.55).
The winner was overjoyed: “The horses flew round the course today! They were easy to drive, like they were all week. You can only be as good as the horsepower in front of you and I have fantastic horsepower!” he said praising his team. What he said about himself and Tor van den Berge winning the Baron und Baronin von Buchholtz Nations’ Cup for the first time? “That is unexpected. But the Dutch team weren’t in best form. The German drivers were good, but the boys weren’t as good as the girls. And the Australian’s simply sneaked in the back door.” And made their way straight to the famous Winners’ Board.
